Alpine has officially ended driver market speculation heading into the autumn by signing Argentine driver Franco Colapinto to a multi-year contract extension through the end of the 2027 season. The move confirms an unchanged lineup for the Enstone-based outfit next year alongside team leader Pierre Gasly.
Colapinto, 23, joined Alpine as a reserve driver in 2025 following a promising late-season stint with Williams in 2024, where he filled in for Logan Sargeant. After earning a full-time seat for 2026, Colapinto experienced an initial period of adaptation under the guidance of Alpine executive advisor Flavio Briatore. However, his form has risen noticeably across the first half of the campaign, featuring six top-10 finishes in twelve Grands Prix and a season-best sixth-place finish at the Canadian Grand Prix.
Alpine management highlighted Colapinto’s technical progression, racecraft consistency, and maturing relationship with the engineering team as key factors behind the early renewal. Alongside his growing on-track results, Colapinto’s widespread popularity in South America and strong commercial backing further solidified his position within the team’s long-term plans heading into Formula 1’s major regulatory overhaul in 2026 and beyond.
By securing their driver lineup ahead of next month’s Italian Grand Prix at Monza, Alpine shifts its full focus toward car development as they battle in a congested midfield championship fight.
