Liverpool are in advanced negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain to complete the blockbuster transfer of French winger Bradley Barcola, with the deal expected to reach up to $227 million (£170m).
The 23-year-old wide man has reportedly agreed on personal terms with the Premier League club. Reports from French outlet Club Legacyz highlight that Barcola plans to take the No. 29 shirt at Anfield—a non-traditional squad number he has insisted on wearing throughout his career.
Speaking on his affinity for the number, Barcola previously explained:
“When I was younger, I used to play FIFA. In the story mode with Alex Hunter, this number became symbolic for me. I thought to myself: ‘The day I go pro, it’ll be number 29.’ And here I am, I adopted it, and now I’ll never let it go.”
With negotiations nearing completion, Liverpool look set to break their club transfer record before the deadline closes.
